With the additional Conflicts: and one Provides that I just checked in,
the upgrade from the texlive 2007 metapackage to 2009 goes
smoothly. There's only one minor glitch:
Preparing to replace texlive-base 2007.dfsg.2-4 (using .../texlive-base_2009~svn14580-1~1_all.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement texlive-base ...
Replacing files in old package texlive-base-bin ...
Processing triggers for man-db ...
Processing triggers for install-info ...

Removing texlive-base-bin ...
update-language failed. Output has been stored in
/tmp/checkrun.LGgipv5f
If tex-common is not configured you can ignore this error message!
Otherwise, please include this file if you report a bug.
The reason is clear - the system is in a mixed state, update-language
and the installed files don't fit together.
Could we solve this by letting tex-common, or even texlive-base Conflict
with texlive-base-bin?
