Bug#520410: texlive: pdflatex uses bitmap (Type 3) fonts in math formulas (bad pdftex.map?)

I guess, I'm seeing the same problem. I tried to reproduce the
problem #467183. When dvips'ing the minimal example it tells me that
the font umvs can't be found and no pk file can be created. The map
file introduced by marvosym however contains the correct mapping:

umvs MarVoSym <marvosym.pfb

The file /var/lib/texmf/web2c/updmap.cfg lists the marvosym.map, but
the file updmap.log does not show that it has been read when creating
the map files. I then reconfigured texlive-fonts-recommended, here is
the screen output:

sid:~# dpkg-reconfigure texlive-fonts-recommended
Running mktexlsr. This may take some time... done.

and no, the map files haven't been re-created. Then I called
updmap-sys, which fixed the map files and the problem is gone.

I guess anywhere a call to updmap-sys is missing.
