Just for the records: the submitter posted the problem into the
pdftex mailing list too^1. The result of the discussion was:
- this is either a problem/missing feature in libpoppler and hence
specific to Debian (the staically linked version does not show the
problem), or
- a decryption problem solved in pdfTeX 1.40.6.
AFAICT, the result of the discussion was not unambiguous. Olivier,
what do you think? Should we wait until 1.40.6 has hit Debian
(3.1415926-1.40.9 is in TL 2008) and then test again?
