Which leads me to the questtion, what we still need.

- debian/postinst.in reads:

This file is no longer used and has therefore been renamed by the
postinst script of the tetex-base package.
-> keep

Further down it checks the old teTeX texmf-tree:

    check_texmf /etc/texmf/texmf.d/05TeXMF.cnf TEXMFDIST \

'/usr/share/texmf-{tetex,texlive}|/usr/share/texmf-{texlive,tetex}|/usr/share/texmf-texlive'
    check_texmf /etc/texmf/texmf.cnf TEXMFDIST \

'/usr/share/texmf-{tetex,texlive}|/usr/share/texmf-{texlive,tetex}|/usr/share/texmf-texlive'

As tex-common conflicts with tetex-base that dirs should be gone,
when we come to this part of the installation.

- debian/preinst.in should be cleaned after etch as it might be
  needed for upgrade
- in debian/common.functions.in some functions have "tetex" in the
  name and a lot of md5sums from old teTeX files, but this does not
  hurt
- /usr/share/texmf-tetex/ is still listed in the Policy and the
  package tetex-bin is listed
- same for doc/TeX-on-Debian.sgml
- update-updmap.1 and update-texmf.8 (see above)
- tpm2licenses(.README)
