Aehmm, do you have
util-linux
installed? It ships
/usr/bin/getopt
and is a REQUIRED part of the installation. If this is missing OR
/usr/bin is not in the path of root I would say that something is really
fishy here.
So please, tell us
dpkg -l util-linux
ls -l /usr/bin/getopt
