Package: texlive-latex-base
Version: 2005.dfsg.3-1
Severity: normal

texlive-latex-base: has a file ot1ptm.fd which references a font 'ptmr7t'.
However the font file ptmr7t is contained in the package texlive-fonts-recommended but is not a dependency of
texlive-latex-base

The result is that when the font is requested I get the following:

(/usr/share/texmf-texlive/tex/latex/psnfss/ot1ptm.fd)kpathsea: Running mktextfm ptmr7t
mktextfm: Running mf-nowin -progname=mf \mode:=ljfour; mag:=1; nonstopmode; input ptmr7t
This is METAFONT, Version 2.71828 (Web2C 7.5.5)

kpathsea: Running mktexmf ptmr7t
! I can't find file `ptmr7t'.
<*> ...:=ljfour; mag:=1; nonstopmode; input ptmr7t

Please type another input file name
! Emergency stop.
<*> ...:=ljfour; mag:=1; nonstopmode; input ptmr7t

Installing the package texlive-fonts-recommended, fixed the problem, so maybe it should be a dependency for
texlive-latex-base.

-- Package-specific info:
If you report an error when running one of the TeX-related binaries
(latex, pdftex, metafont,...), or if the bug is related to bad or wrong
output, please include a MINIMAL example input file that produces the
error in your report. Don't forget to also include minimal examples of
other files that are needed, e.g. bibtex databases. Often it also helps
to include the logfile. Please, never send included pictures!

If your example file isn't short or produces more than one page of
output (except when multiple pages are needed to show the problem),
you can probably minimize it further. Instructions on how to do that
can be found at

This is intended, closing this bug.
The layout of the packages are as follows:
- texlive-latex-base
        provides the BASIC latex stuff, that is NOT other
        packages and fonts. But you can write basic LaTeX documents as
	long as you don't revert to special fonts (which ptm is, you
	probably not even have it installed)
- texlive-{latex,fonts}-recommended
	provide stuff that *EVERY*NORMAL*USER* wants to have.

Best wishes

Norbert
