I don't know... What I think we need is a reliable way to create
orig.tar.gz which can be repeated by anyone. And ideally can be checked
by a watch file.

Whether this involves downloading a zip file, or checking out a
repository, or just checking whether a given repository is really what
an argument or environment variable claims, that I don't care.
