But a second run of dpkg --configure -a did work, or not?
I assume that there is a problem which we try to solve since quite some
time: lmodern should be installable without the need to install a TeX
package. In the postinst script it tries to check whether a tex package
is installed, and if yes, then runs updmap-sys to make the fonts
available for TeX.
Now, it SEEMS to me that all the packages are unpacked, but
texlive-base-bin and texlive-base is not configured. Our check is in
principle whether
kpsewhich --version >/dev/null 2>&1
succeeds (because that would mean that texlive-base-bin is installed and
configured), and in addition whether updmap-sys is present.
But in your case
> !!! ERROR! The map file `dvips35.map' has not been found at all.
this is strange, because dvips35.map IS present, because
texlive-base-bin is unpacked.
It seems that the problem is that it cannot be FOUND by kpsewhich by the
time updmap-sys is run.
Unfortunately I cannot check this now, but if the problem STILL presist
or you could repeat it, then it would be nice to have a
set +x
at the beginning of the updmap script (updmap-sys calls updmap).
I hope Florent has more insight for now ...
Best wishes
