[Bug 122863] Re: package texlive-base-bin 2007-11 failed to install/upgrade: post-installation script spawns thousands of processes

Debian TeX maintainers, this Ubuntu bug has the whold history available
at https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/122863.

As Norbert has said before in the thread, feisty does not have >= 1.0
tex-common, but 0.42 (I think you meant to say "resembles etch"). I
assume that could cause some problem during upgrade?

Unfortunately the reporter used apt-get and couldn't provide a clear
package version history. After reading the dpkg log provided, I think
the upgrade went as follows:

System at feisty:
    tex-common 0.42
tetex stuff (version unclear, but I can check if needed)
    xmltex 1.9-11.1ubuntu1
    jadetex 3.13-7.1ubuntu2

During upgrade:
    tex-common upgraded from 0.42 to 1.9
tetex stuff upgraded to dummy package, pulling in texlive
xmltex and jadetex didn't seem to be touched, probably because the
        whole installation aborted
    texlive-base-bin's postinst failed

After the failed upgrade:
    xmltex and jadetex removed manually

Then the reporter says everything is fine.

Debian TeX maintainers, do you see any obvious problem with this upgrade
path? And do you want to investigate more (I understand very well if
you don't)?

Thanks,
Ming
