Package: tex-common
Version: 1.9
Severity: wishlist

Packages build-depending on tetex-extra end up pulling each every
of the split-out texlive package. For each of these, a bunch of
updates are being run:

-snip-
Setting up texlive-lang-mongolian (2007.dfsg.1-3) ...
Running mktexlsr. This may take some time... done.
Running updmap-sys. This may take some time... done.
Building format(s) --byhyphen
/var/lib/texmf/tex/generic/config/language.dat.
This may take some time... done.
-snip-

This is slow even on my PC, and on slower architecture's it is
terrible. I've seen cases on my armel buildd where installing
and configuring tex packages takes 40min, while the actual package
builds in 5 minutes. And then we take another 30min removing all
tex packages...

Please look at how update-menus from menu package handles this,
or (preferrably) the more generic way for the same idea:

Build-dependencies on tetex packages are dprecated, and in fact lenny
will have a release goal to NOT have any tetex dependencies.

Closing this bug. Please reopen a bug to the respective package.

Best wishes
