Hi Norbert,

not practical at all and may be rather vague/unclear but,

About conffiles, we might be too naive to put so many files
as conffiles when we see Bug#420390.
This is certainly of no help at present but I feel that many
conffiles can be shipped as normal files because they can be,
if necessary, customized only by putting modified versions under
/usr/local/share/texmf generally by sysadmin.
IMHO only files which essentially need to be modified with other
packages are conffiles.

Not relevant with the current problem but what looks bad to me
is many documents of xetex can't be compiled under Debian/Linux
because of (perhaps) fonts.
For example /usr/share/doc/texlive-xetex/xetex/XeTeX-reference.ltx.gz
Further it is not clear to me what fonts we should use under
Debian/Linux. Does anyone has any idea with this issue?

I thought at first there was no notion like papersize in TeX itself
and a request to support libpaper sounded very ridiculous but now
I can understand it is very bad if users in USA fail to print their
TeX documents by default. I agree it's not urgent but it is good we
try to support libpaper.
Let's stop to say TeX is different from OOo and invite OOo users into
TeX world ;-)

Sorry for noise.
