Bug#424404: PDF files are much larger with lmodern than with CM fonts

Hi Hartmut,

I looked into this and replied to Vincent Lefevre:
,--------
| I looked at the article rnc6.tex. There are no font
| duplicate in this case either, even pdffonts reports
| LMRoman10-Regular and LMRoman12-Regular twice: those
| instances share the same fontfile in the pdf.
|
| The problem remains that using lm fonts instead of cm will
| add 12-15kb for each font for a typical document that uses
| cm fonts only. However, if other languages are used too,
| then using lm fonts can also result in smaller size, since
| different fonts can share the same fontfile.

Thanh

wondering why then the same font does appear more than once. Maybe the
document contains embedded .pdf files, and the psname entry (2nd field,
like CMR10) is missing in the pdftex.map file, so that no font
replacement does happen?
