I've had a look at 

https://patches.ubuntu.com/t/texlive-bin/texlive-bin_2007-7ubuntu1.patch

and there's nothing interesting in there regarding libkpathsea.  

The poppler patch is a bit more interesting, because it differs
considerably from the patch at
