As found out in this bug report it was caused by a file, which did
not vanishe, although the package, which provided it, was removed.
No, it was not a config file. Further the problem was never reported
again, so it might have been a problem specifically to your system
(perhaps and old(?) dpkg bug).

I suggest to close it now. What do you think?
