1) I only see 2007.01.02-1 and 2007.01.02-2 when I browse
    http://www.tug.org/texlive/Debian/context/

2) FWIW, I've been using the context-2007.01.02-2 without that link.
   I wonder is it necessary?

Some info from my system:

# find / -name pdftex -type f
# find / -name pdftex -type l
/usr/bin/pdftex
# find / -name pdfetex -type f
/usr/bin/pdfetex
# find / -name pdfetex -type l
# file /usr/bin/pdftex
/usr/bin/pdftex: symbolic link to `pdfetex'
# file /usr/bin/pdfetex
/usr/bin/pdfetex: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV),

# dpkg -S /usr/bin/pdftex
