I think it is a principle limitation in the way floats are implemented
in LaTeX that they cannot be broken across pages. Does any of the
packages for multi-page tabulars provide them as floats? I don't think
so, but if one does then one might call this a whichlist bug asking for
a similar enhancement of listings. If not, then it is likely that it
just cannot be done with (current?) LaTeX.
