Good. Is there any test-bed that is already being formed or would it be
written from scratch?

Oh, this is important. A friend of mine told me that newer versions of
babel cause the page layout (and page breaking) to differ from earlier
versions. I don't know if the paper he wrote was in English or in
Brazilian Portuguese.
Having the students checking this would be nice.

Right. This is the test-bed that you mentioned before, right?

I think that I can fill in this part (at least regarding scripting,
learning how to work with a repository, learning with command line,
knowing about dvi, pdf, ps etc). I am interested in guiding them because
it would also be a good learning exercise for me also.

What about the packaging for Debian of texlive? What about checking
licences of files? I would have to teach them the importance of
licences, the different ones etc.
The idea would be to document how the work on a Free Software Project
actually happens. And, of course, to gain some experience with tools
that they would not see in a regular course and experience that they
could put on their resume.
Thanks for the suggestions, Rogério Brito.
