Wouldn't it be safer to also check whether kpathsea is usable before
doing that? Remember, dh_installtex has the following code:
dhit_libkpathsea_configured ()
{
kpsewhich --version >/dev/null 2>&1
}
[...]
if dhit_libkpathsea_configured; then
if which mktexlsr >/dev/null; then
dhit_update_lsr_files
fi
[...]
fi
This is because we found one day that programs such as mktexlsr could be
installed but non-functional when the package providing kpathsea is
unpacked but not configured...
