IIRC Type > 42 -formatted fonts are just wrapped True Type -fonts. dvips cannot convert from ttf to type 42 but ttftot42 can. Once that is done the type 42 can be treated like a type 1 font with one exeption: dvips does not support subsetting of type 42 fonts, so you will have to tell dvips to include the complete font.
