Hi Zeke,
Thank you for reply and suggestion, but unfortunately that does not help.
I know that linux-headers (for currently used kernel version) are needed to properly install nvidia-driver package (from Debian repo), because nvidia DKMS modules must be compiled during such installation, but it seems there is a bug which makes it does not work for a new 6.12 kernels (tested on initial 6.12.5 and current 6.12.6 in Trixie).
After I've already sent my initial message here, I've found a bug report in BTS:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1089513
According to the last comments, there is a patch available which
fixes the issue, so I hope it will be applied in the next
nvidia-driver package release for Debian (and hopefully before
Trixie become a new stable).
Right now I'm back on kernel 6.11 which works fine with
nvidia-driver package version 535.216 (available in Trixie repo),
so I removed 550 drivers from nvidia web page as mentioned in
initial email here and stayed on the official one from Trixie
repo.

Rafal
Hello. I had the same issue and I've found that one of the issues was that the kernel headers were not correctly installed. I ran
apt install linux-headers-$(uname -r)
and after that finished the dkms driver was built.
I am not sure why this happens. Maybe some dependencies are missing?
I hope this helps you
Zeke

Hi,
Yesterday Debian testing switched from 6.11 to 6.12.
After that upgrade my Nvidia drivers (535.216 from official testing
repo) stop working (KDE Plasma 6.2).
I've fight with this for a whole day, but with no success. Symptoms:
- SDDM cannot open X for login screen ("failed to read display number
from pipe")
- so black screen after reboot
- X reports: failed to open /dev/dri/card0 (invalid argument)
Tried everything (reinstalling nvidia-driver to compile modules for new
kernel during installation etc).
Finally successfully restored my Debian testing by installing Nvidia
Debian drivers from their official web page (version 550 right now).
Graphics is not so good (as it was on official Debian testing repo - for
example google-chrome-stable has some glitches), but desktop environment
works fine.
Any advice or experiences from other Nvidia driver users on Debian testing?

Rafal
