Help, I have a somewhat similar problem, X will not
start after apt-get update & apt-get upgrade. Where do I go from
here. I have Debian 4.0.1-8, Kernel-image-2.6.12-1-686 and HP ze4540us
laptop. Nothing pops out at me from dmesg. When I run X –configure
I see the following in /var/log/Xorg.0.log. “Open apm failed missing /dev/apm-bios (No such file
or directory)” “Missing output drivers. Configuration failed” I also noticed that /etc/modules has only “ide-cd”
and “ide-detect” as its entries. This seems to be a very
short list. The boot leaves me at login. If I login as root none
of X routines work, such as, xdm, kdm or gdm. What should I look at next. BJD |
