Hi. Thanks for reply.
I have already tried to do that. No sucess. I have had alsa for a numer 
of 2.4 kernels. They worked ok. I read somewhere about that somewhere 
the naming changed. It seems like that since i get:
snd: Unknown parameter `smajor
before i got
snd: Unknown parameter `sndmajor
Therefore i think it is related to some configuration in debian rather 
than kernel.
