Re: serious trouble while apt-get update,upgrade,dist-upgrade



I had a similar problem.  When I ran dselect to see if I could find
some additional information, it wanted to remove tar (and everything
which depends upon tar)!  Apparently the upgrade had installed a new
version of tar which conflicted with cpio.  I downloaded the unstable
version of cpio (cpio_2.4.2-39_i386.deb), installed it, and now my
system appears to be happy again.
