The goal is to be able to pass the charmap; the standard environement
variables don't carry this information in a portable way, and
different Linux systems clash with each other. So, I do that with an
unused environament variable, LC_CHARMAP, and use my shell startup
file (.zshenv) to set the locales as I expect.
