Package: ssh
Version: 1:2.5.2p2-1
Severity: minor

The "Configuration Files" section of the ssh manual page has several
sentences which say things like, "The default value for IdentityFile
is $HOME/.ssh/identity." This implies that this syntax can be used in
the configuration file (IdentityFile $HOME/.ssh/blah). It cannot; one
must either use ~ or /home/whoever for $HOME; the configuration file
evidently does not inherit the shell environment. A mention of this
would have saved me many hours of debugging.

Thanks. This was apparently fixed a few years ago. See:
