I've experienced the same problem on a ultra2, kernel 2.4.19. It was solved with the Patrick Finnegan's checkroot (thanks).

Anyway there are many

Unimplemented SPARC system call 188

and some 

sys32_ioctl(hwclock:73|76|77|229): Unknown cmd fd(3) cmd(00004b50) arg(effffc58|48)

lines still appearing. Someone could tell me what those errors mean? (not the "you've never had to leave woody" answer please ;)
