This is not true! I can boot via network using an image with permissions 

lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     disk           12 Jun  6 12:17 864CCD66.SUN4M -> tftpboot.img
-rw-r--r--   1 root     root      2516353 Jun  5 18:57 tftpboot.img
