Yes -- this is how you're supposed to use the whole thing.  You
describe your output with DSSSL code, and Jade/JadeTeX produces the
formatted output, that is, TeX code, dvi code, PDF, whatever.

Try doing it with DSSSL first.  It's really pretty easy to have a
"driver" file that overrides some of the functions of the upstream
code, or sets parameters.

BTW, are you a TeX guy as well as someone interested in SGML?  There
are a number of bugs with JadeTeX I would like to see fixed...
