Re: [Linux/390 under z/VM 4.2.0] CP works forever (Lenny): new attempt

Hi Philipp,

I return to our problem with the installation of a Debian/Lenny  version on our mainframe
( a a Multiprise Series 3000 Model H30, 32 bits running z/VM V4.2.0). You can see below the
different steps of a new attempt which remains unsuccessful.

Could you help ?

Thanks and best regards.

1. I got the for files from:

(the files with their size:
2788877 24 nov 22:06 initrd.debian
3361536 24 nov 22:06 kernel.debian)

2. The the files after they have been reblocked:

LINUX7   FILELIST A0  V 169  Trunc=169 Size=20 Line=1 Col=1 Alt=0
Cmd   Filename Filetype Fm Format Lrecl    Records     Blocks   Date     Time
DEBIAN   EXEC     A1 V         40        10           1 5/10/11 17:17:27
KERNEL   DEBIAN   A1 F         80       42020        798 5/10/11 17:09:52
INITRD   DEBIAN   A1 F         80       34861         681   5/10/11 17:07:46
PARMFILE DEBIAN   A1 F         80       1           1   5/10/11 17:00:47

3. We added some parameters to the parmfile.debian in order to have some debug information:

ro locale=C debconf/priority=low DEBIAN_FRONTEND=text BOOT_DEBUG=2

4. And we got CP running forever:

Hi Philipp,             30/4/11

Thank you very much.

I am far away from Grenoble (at KU, Bangkok) and will travel tomorrow and Monday. Jean-Claude will probably read this before Monday, check the FILELIST info, and retry. I can't access our H30 from here to check do a FILELIST.

I am not sure he got "DEBLENNY" filetypes the last time he tried, hence there may be a problem already there.

And... of course you are right, it is 31 bits, not 32.

Best regards,

Christian Boitet

I get different record counts for my successful 31-bit boot (on VM 6.1, though):

00: 0000003 FILES PURGED
00: RDR FILE 0028 SENT FROM PRKTLIN0 PUN WAS 0028 RECS 042K CPY  001 A NOHOLD NO
KEEP
00: RDR FILE 0029 SENT FROM PRKTLIN0 PUN WAS 0029 RECS 0001 CPY  001 A NOHOLD NO
KEEP
00: RDR FILE 0030 SENT FROM PRKTLIN0 PUN WAS 0030 RECS 035K CPY  001 A NOHOLD NO
KEEP
00: 0000003 FILES CHANGED
00: 0000003 FILES CHANGED

FILELIST says this:

Cmd Filename Filetype Fm Format Lrecl    Records     Blocks   Date       Time
    KERNEL   DEBLENNY A1 F         80      42020        798 2011-04-30 16:25:13
    INITRD   DEBLENNY A1 F         80      34861        681 2011-04-30 16:25:06
    DEBLENNY EXEC     A1 V         40         11          1 2011-04-30 16:23:51
    PARMFILE DEBLENNY A1 V         11          1          1 2011-04-30 16:22:42

I still sense corruption there.  I.e. are lrecl, records and blocks the same
for you?  Given that I just fetched a Lenny image from current it ought to be
identical.

Kind regards,
Philipp Kern
