как-то этот фрагмент сложен для понимания (с моим англ)

да, вот сейчас протестил
с такой дефолтной командой кронтаба
 test -x /usr/sbin/anacron || ( cd / && run-parts --report /etc/cron.daily )
ниче не выполняется
а вот с такой
run-parts /etc/cron.daily -- работает
