With intltool-debian being (de-facto?) orphaned for up to 10 years, I
suspect it might be prudent to abandon ship on the Debian-specific
version of this tool.
  I appreciate this might be easier said than done.  Especially
considering I have no idea about what Debian-specific changes we applied
to intltool.

If the description holds and it is "just" the RFC822/Deb822 format,
maybe we can "just" get that upstreamed and be done with it?
