Installation failure

Question:
Why does the distro not install successfully from a burned DVD even though the md5 passes?
It almost always fails at the point of installing the core binaries.

The Problem:
Since about version 4.xx I have not been able to successfully install the
base files from a DVD rom.
3 days ago 5.04 failed the same way 5.0, 5.01, 5.02 and 5.03 have.

Details:
I download the DVD iso distro from a Deb mirror, such as York.
Burn the iso to a brand name (Memorex) DVD using cdrecord/wodim.
(Stopped using anything to do with Joliet because I suspected this was a
cause.)
Check the DVD md5 checksum and it passes, using the same burner that
created the disc.
Using the same DVD player, install the distro using the "expert" mode.
Get to the core files and red screen of failure occurs.
Restart the install and again get the red screen of failure.
Usually the failure occurs at different binary files.
I repeated this process and eventually did get all the core binaries
installed.
I have tried 5 different DVD drives, including 2 brand new ones and all
hang at the core file installation.
It is odd that it always stops at the core binaries.
(I can add/remove detail).

Solution(s)?
One solution that does work is burning the distro onto CD discs.
md5 is again successful and installs without issue.

I am not sure if you are the correct part of the Debian Organization to
contact.
Please advise if I should redirect my question elsewhere.
