The paths listed are obviously not the ones where the data files live on my machine.
My complaint is minor though, since it doesn't take a genius to realise that the
actual path is /usr/share/games/fortunes/ ...

By the way, using strace I see that it also searches /usr/local/share/games/fortunes/
in some way. That should be documented, IMHO -- it might be an elegant way to add your own files.

This has been fixed already: current manpage shows the right paths.
