Package: ethiop
Version: 0.7-9
Severity: wishlist
Hi,
the ethiop package contains fonts in Metafont format. Meanwhile, Type1
versions (scalable fonts) are available on CTAN, at
CTAN://tex-archive/fonts/ps-type1/ethiop. It would be great if those
were also available in Debian.
Moreover, the upstream tarball of the new texlive Debian packages (see
my separate bug report) also contains a copy of ethiop.sty and the
fonts, in metafont and type1 format. Generally we, the TeXlive
maintainers, prefer to exclude files that are already packages
separately for Debian, because it is better if they have a separate
maintainer. Because of the missing Type1 fonts in the separate package,
however, we currently include all of ethiop.
We'd be glad to hear from you whether you want to continue maintaining
ethiop, and whether you plan to include the fonts in this or a separate
package, so that we can adjust our dependencies. In case you'd rather
give up the package (which we'd really regret), please also tell us.
Thank you in advance,
Frank

The ethiop package has been removed from Debian testing, unstable and
experimental, so I am now closing the bugs that were still opened
against it.
For more information about this package's removal, read
http://bugs.debian.org/398890 . That bug might give the reasons why
this package was removed, and suggestions of possible replacements.
Don't hesitate to reply to this mail if you have any question.
Thank you for your contribution to Debian.
