Subject: ftape-doc: docs are confusing and self-contradictory; lack Debian info
To: submit@bugs.debian.org
X-Mailer: bug 3.2.9
Delivered-To: submit@bugs.debian.org

Package: ftape-doc
Version: 1.04-1
Severity: normal

The ftape documentation is large and somewhat loosely coordinated, so
I guess it would be a fairly major undertaking to try to correct this
really, but there are a few things at least which I think could be
fixed almost by autopilot search-and-replace;

  * file locations are not always consistent with what actually
happens to be the case in the Debian incarnation of ftape

  * instructions for installation are partly superfluous (if you
install the package, the installation instructions inside the
package tell you how to accomplish something which the package
*inst scripts have already taken care of, which is hardly
    self-evident to a newbie)

  * instructions for installation partly do not conform with
conventions on Debian (i.e. how to update /etc/modules.conf for
    example)

  * the driver name bpck-fdc seems to have changed to just bpck at
some point. This is changed in some places in the documentation,
    but not everywhere

A roadmap to the documentation would be nice (what to read in which
order, etc), as would a trim-down of stuff which is (not always
consistently) described in more than one place, but that's definitely
wishlist territory already.

Hope this helps,
