While trying to ssh to a newly setup potato system it will ask me for
my password. After typing in my password it just sits there without
logging in or giving any error message. If I take a look on the newly
setup potato system a sshd2 will show 99% CPU utilization. Here is a ps
aux of it.

root 114 0.0 0.6 1960 868 ? S 07:23 0:00 /usr/sbin/sshd2
root 134 0.1 1.1 2192 1432 ? S 07:24 0:00 /usr/sbin/sshd2
ricardo 138 99.9 1.1 2180 1440 ttyp0 R 07:24 2:26 /usr/sbin/sshd2

This is what gets logged in /var/log/auth.log
Nov 24 16:48:01 cin sshd2[18667]: connection from "134.29.32.12"
Nov 24 16:48:04 cin sshd2[18682]: User ricardo's local password accepted.
Nov 24 16:48:04 cin sshd2[18682]: Password authentication for user ricardo accepted.
Nov 24 16:48:04 cin sshd2[18682]: User ricardo, coming from Cyan.CompServ.Mankato.MSUS.EDU, authenticated.

The config files are the default that come with the package except I
switched from port 2222 to 22 in both /etc/init.d/ssh2 and
/etc/ssh2/sshd2_config

On my main workstation with a potato install ssh2 works fine. My main
workstation was a slink install updated to potato. I also have another
machine that was a slink install updated to potato that the ssh doesn't
work correctly either. All of these systems are synced up to the latest
potato.

If I get the ssh debian source and recreate a deb package and install
it it works fine. This is what I did to do that.

apt-get source ssh2
dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -us -uc
dpkg -i ssh2_2.0.13-3_i386.deb

Here are the versions of things ssh2 depends on:
ii libc6 2.1.2-10
ii libncurses4 4.2-3.4
ii xlib6g 3.3.5-2

Kernel version:
Linux cin 2.2.12 #1 Thu Oct 14 09:29:24 EST 1999 i686 unknown

Shared C library:
/lib/libc.so.6 -> libc-2.1.2.so

Hi!

Ssh2 was removed from the Debian archive this morning. It's
replacement, openssh (ssh package), does not seem to be affected
by this bug; therefore, I'm closing it.

Kind regards,
Bas Zoetekouw.
