here's a bit improved description:

This package contains a script which sends information about the data
type to the storage server. This information allows the storage-server
to know which kind of data (strings, integer, etc.) an agent will send
to him. 
In other words, this scripts notifies the storage server about the
presence of an agent and the kind of data it will be report.
