Claim of XLibre Hate Campaign Against Debian Developer

Hello,

I'm callmetango, one of the XLibre [1] maintainers. I didn't come here to talk about the packaging of XLibre in Debian. I came here to talk about these two things only:

1. The claim of Gunnar Wolf <gwolf@debian.org> that the XLibre "authors" are actively conducting a hate campaign against a Debian developer. [2]
2. The statement of Antoine Le Gonidec <vv221@debian.org> of receiving threatening e-mails sent by people involved in XLibre. [3]

## 1. Claim of XLibre Hate Campaign Against Debian Developer

On Oct 3, 2025, at 16:27:03 UTC, a person named Gunnar Wolf posted the following message to this mailing list [2]:

> There is known history of the XLibre authors actively conducting a hate campaign that resulted in a strong personal prejudice (economically and socially) to a Debian Developer, and that campaign carried on to try to further harm them.
>
> Of course I am not talking in the name of the project. I cannot.
>
> But I strongly support Debian not willing to engage with toxic developers.

For us, this is a strong allegation, and we take it very seriously. Our internal investigation has so far found no evidence that any member of the XLibre core team could have done such a thing.

We therefore kindly ask Gunnar Wolf to provide us with data and facts that can prove his claim by stating who did what, when, where, and (if possible) why.

When doing so, could Gunnar Wolf please also clarify who he means by “XLibre authors”? Our organization consists of over 10 core team members, who represent XLibre publicly. Otherwise, there is a variable number of contributors who work at their own discretion without representing the organization itself.

We regret that neither Gunnar Wolf nor anyone else contacted us directly when they had this suspicion so that we could have reacted quickly. However, we also believe that once this matter has been clarified, a public statement should be issued here, as the matter has been made public here too.

## 2. Statement of Receiving Threatening E-Mails

On Oct 4, 2025, at 10:41:47 UTC, a person named Antoine Le Gonidec posted the following message to this mailing list [3]:

> Just so the kind of people involved in XLibre is made more obvious: I already started to get threatening e-mails from them following the couple messages I sent to this mailing list.
>
> This is the kind of behaviour that would be encouraged by any DD working on or sponsoring work related to XLibre.

We unequivocally condemn any threats made in the name of XLibre. In this regard, we kindly ask Antoine Le Gonidec to forward the emails in question to my address cmtango@proton.me . We will analyze them and take the appropriate measures. Once we have done so, we offer to publish a statement here as well.

## Closing Remarks

We hope for friendly and constructive communication in order to resolve the matter as quickly as possible. We, the XLibre Project, are interested in peaceful cooperation.

Both of the above issues are being tracked at https://github.com/X11Libre/misc/issues/419.

Thank you
callmetango
