Hi Neil,
We've routinely ended up banning all tor users from many Debian IRC channels
due to this sort of abuse. The availability of account cloaks on OFTC now
means that we can permit legitimate tor users easily so I'd support these
bans becoming standard practice across our channels.
For those playing along at home, I'd also like to echo the suggestions of
adding @debian-chanop and @debian-master groups to channel access lists. We
have too many channels where there are only two people on the access list
neither of whom have been seen in years. When problems such as trolls,
spammers or the sorts of crap-flooders we've seen over the last few weeks
arise in those channels, it's difficult to deal with that situation and it
can become quite unpleasant for the regular inhabitants.
I think I can speak for all the members of @debian-chanop in saying that the
access such membership provides is a "last resort" for experienced ops to be
able to help out in emergencies and that it doesn't change the normal
expectations of how the channel would function and who the owners of the
channel are.
cheers
Stuart
