If your python has never been configured then your dpkg configuration is messed up. This isn't a hplip issue, rather your system configuration is questionable :-( I would suggest you try the following: # dpkg --configure -a See what gets configured.. # cd /var/cache/apt/archives # dpkg -i hplip_3.10.5-1_amd64.deb libhpmud0_3.10.5-1_amd64.deb See what gets installed..
