Bug#484801: [Pkg-hpijs-devel] Bug#484801: hplip: automatically got a systray app which I don't need

Manuel,

If you don't have a HP printer/scanner then there is no reason to have hplip installed.

Please provide the screen dump/ output where it tried to remove printconf et al. That is wrong and should not be happening.

The systray applet is only supposed to display when needed, not all the time. But I have also seen that behaviour with Xfce as well.

Subject: [Pkg-hpijs-devel] Bug#484801: hplip: automatically got a systray app which I don't need
From: Manuel Bilderbeek <bilm@oce.nl>
Date: 07/06/2008 21:23

Package: hplip
Severity: normal

After upgrading some packages, I suddenly got a HP systray icon on my
GNOME panel, while I don't even have an HP printer connected.

I tried to remove the package (hplip contains it), but that means
removing all kinds of other useful packages like printconf. (See also
below to see which dependencies I had to break...)

Please fix this, there is something wrong in package structure and/or
dependencies. I don't want to automatically get a useless systray app.

Thanks
