Package: cupsys
Version: 1.2.1-2
Severity: normal

The recent upgrade to cupsys 1.2.1-3 defines the server from localhost:631 to
/var/run/cups/cups.sock:631 for user root (but not for non-root users). This
value fails; kprinter for instance says it cannot contact the cups server.

In KDE's printer control module, selecting Print Server | Configure server
produces this error message:

Unable to configure print server. Error message received from manager:

Unable to retrive configuration file from the CUPS server. You probably
don't have the access permissions to perform this operation.

This is in Administrator mode after entering the root password.

Downgrading to cupsys 1.2.1-2 fixes the server problem, though not the server
configuration permission problem.

I realize this is sid and things will break, but isn't the change of server
address a significant change that should be accompanied by a warning?

Dave

Dear bug submitter,

This bug was reported against a very old version of cups (older than
in the current stable Debian version "Etch"). About a year ago,
Martin-Eric Racine asked for feedback whether the bug still applied to
the current Debian Etch version, but we did not get any feedback. In
order to not keep around old, hardware-specific, and inactive bugs
around forever, I close this bug now.

Please report back if you still experience the problem with the
current version in Etch; if you can test Lenny/unstable, that would be
highly appreciated, of course. I will reopen this bug then.

Thank you for your report!

Martin
