Package: cupsys
Version: 1.1.14-5
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hello,

the situation is as follows. When trying to print larger documents (or
parts thereof, documents in question are 8-15 MB OpenOffice, or PDF
Files), cupsd (ie. the cupsys-server package) will gradually eat up more
and more memory, until the system runs out of swapspace, when it will
kill off the cups-server (among other things).

I tested it on a PII-450 with 256MB RAM and 1 Gigabyte of swapspace,
printing just one page (2 tiff images, some text), and imo cupsys
shouldnt need more than 40-50MB to spool this.

As far as I can determine, other versions of the package (even 1.1.14-4)
do not exhibit this behavior.

yours

Robert

Dear bug submitter,

This bug was reported against a very old version of cups (older than
in the current stable Debian version "Etch"). About a year ago,
Martin-Eric Racine asked for feedback whether the bug still applied to
the current Debian Etch version, but we did not get any feedback. In
order to not keep around old, hardware-specific, and inactive bugs
around forever, I close this bug now.

Please report back if you still experience the problem with the
current version in Etch; if you can test Lenny/unstable, that would be
highly appreciated, of course. I will reopen this bug then.

Thank you for your report!

Martin
