Package: hplip Version: 2.7.10-2 Severity: important It's great to see the new version of hplip in the archive, but I have to report a few issues: 1) The old package's hplip.desktop file, which added a convenient KDE/GNOME menu entry, has disappeared. Please re-add it. I see that the file exists in the debian/ dir - you just need to install it, and remove the NotShowIn=KDE line. And install the matching icons, also in the debian/ dir. 2) The hp-toolbox and other features didn't work at all until I added my user to the scanner group. I wasn't informed of this new requirement. And why the scanner group? To be honest, I don't like this new requirement at all, but if group membership really must be required, I'd much rather it be something like "plugdev". Really, all use of the scanner group should go, and all external plugable devices should use "plugdev". But I'm ranting :) At least, though, document the change in a NEWS entry, and the README.Debian. 3) In CUPS, when adding a printer, I noticed that all HP printer choices were doubled - that is, they all appeared twice. It looks to me like CUPS looks in multiple directories, and was finding the same PPDs twice, because of hpijs-ppds' symlink in /usr/share/cups/model. I deleted that symlink, and the problem vanished. 4) hplip recommends openprinting.org-ppds, which is the Ubuntu package. Debian's equivalent is still called linuxprinting.org-ppds (unless you want to take over and rename the seemingly neglected foomatic packages as well...). Again, thanks for the new package. Cheers, Christopher Martin
