Bug#321049: gs-esp fails to work with CUPS

The latest version of gs-esp does not work when used in cups. I get the
following error message:

ESP Ghostscript 815.00: Error: Font Renderer Plugin ( FreeType ) return code = -1
FAPIhook NimbusMonL-Regu
FAPIhook is in .loadfont context for the font Font NimbusMonL-Regu.
Trying to render the font Font NimbusMonL-Regu with FAPI...
FAPIhook Courier
PathLoad known for the font Error: /invalidfont in -dict-

Downgrading to the previous version (7.07.1-9) fixes the problem.

I don't know if this is related to the build failures. Please let me
know if there is some way to debug this.
