I use a Realtek wireless dongle with the iMac... an 8192CU based Edimax dongle to be precise. It worked during the package portion of the install but not now.

If you're connected with an Ethernet cable, it should work after the installation
if it worked during the installation. But I really don't know what settings you
picked during installation.

ifconfig isn't being used anymore, see:
