Re: Unable to log in to iMac G4, graphical login workaround?

Hi!

You can ssh into the machine? So it is running, but the video doesn't
work? Yes, the nvidia driver is broken at the moment, because it doesn't
load the open firmware parameters needed for the driver to work.

Currently the only solution is to download the correct video BIOS
(VBIOS) for the specific graphics card (there is almost always a PC
version of the same graphics card, so there is a PC VBIOS for it) and
make the nouveau driver use this BIOS form file instead of reading it
from the graphics card itself, which only has the open firmware fcode on it.

I did that on my G4 with nVidia GeForce 6200 (flashed PC card) and it
works – as a workaround for now.

See https://lists.debian.org/debian-powerpc/2015/07/msg00043.html for
how to do it.

Get the BIOS e.g. from https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/

Good luck!
