RE: startx goes to black screen with mouse pointer

Thanks Herminio i had been test after read this post first time
but on 7800gtx i continue have problems. ... the same issue reported couple monts ago in the qemu kvm ppc
the X start but a message from gdm appear with "system encounter a problem ... bla bla bla ... reboot"

on radeonhd the X continue crashing.
im thinking probably is the pagesize of the kernel reported by an user some days a go can be  the key.

Letz hope

mate gives the same result - don’t have a lot of time to fiddle around with it - but IO will try again at some stage and report back on any success - its very interesting that yellowdoglinux 6.2 runs to graphics display no problem but debian 8 doesn’t - maybe there is something to be learned form ydl about how to get these old clunkers going again...

Jonni,

We may have a fix.  Please see the discussion in the debian-powerpc list at
   https://lists.debian.org/debian-powerpc/2015/06/msg00008.html

Peter Saisanas has build a fixed kernel for us G5 users that he wants us to try.   In that thread, he gives very complete instructions for how to install it.

Contact me if you have trouble.

Enjoy!
Rick
