Does adding either of the following options to the xorg.conf Section
"Device" work around the video freezes?

Option "AGPMode" "4"
Option "DMAForXv" "off"
Option "BusType" "PCI"

If none of them do, please try disabling the DRI to work around the
problem. Unfortunately I don't remember how best to achieve that with
the X server (driver) in lenny, hopefully someone else can jump in.
Verify in the Xorg.0.log file that the line:

> (II) RADEON(0): Direct rendering enabled

changes to 'disabled'.
