Sounds pretty much like my problem indeed, even though I don't know
anything about tmds chips or what OF stands for.

Tried the packages from experimental, didn't change this. Unfortunately
it did change a different thing: the xfree86-driver-synaptics support
for second or third button (with respect to pasting) with two or three
fingers doesn't work anymore. :-/
